Be2 media award

small Be2 logo

The Be2 media award - or best 'old media/new media' category - was created to reflect the changing nature of the publishing world in the AEC, FM and property sectors. Traditional print titles are adapting their activities to cater for the explosion in internet use, and this award will go to the publisher or publication that has most effectively risen to the challenges and opportunities of social media. It might be a conventional publication that has successfully incorporated Web 2.0 into its output or it might be a new-style publication, news service or application that has been created specifically to engage with content consumers via the web or mobile devices.

Best AEC collaboration application

small Be2 logo

Best AEC collaboration application will go to the company behind a platform that really enables people to collaborate in the planning, design, construction and/or operation of a built asset. The system will be web-enabled to allow a geographically dispersed team to share ideas and information and to deliver effective feedback. As advocates of Web 2.0, we hope nominations will include businesses which have incorporated social media tools and techniques into their technologies, or which have effectively used social media to market or support their system.

Best AEC community, network or application

small Be2 logo

Best AEC online community, network or application will go to the person or organisation which has created the most effective and interactive online space for like-minded people to share ideas and information about their work or special interests in architecture, engineering, construction, etc. The possibilities are numerous. Perhaps your AEC membership organisation is helping its members share knowledge and expertise? Or maybe there has been a project which has used Web 2.0 tools to engage with local people or other end-users of a built asset? (And, again, size isn't everything!)

Best 'internet of things' application

small Be2 logo

The best 'internet of things' application looks at technologies which are able to extract data from buildings, environments and objects and deliver related information to us, and which allow us to interact with those 'things'. For example, Web 2.0 technologies allow us to share environmental data (temperature, humidity, electricity usage, etc) about buildings; scannable RFID tags and QR codes allow us to associate buildings, components and other items with information about them (their designer, manufacturer, date of installation, ownership, cost, etc); and we can even Tweet a keyword and make a robot blow bubbles!

Nominations might include virtual reality, augmented reality smartphone applications, mobile phone presence detection tools, or web-based applications delivering information about goods and services in a particular place.

New Be2award category

Awards tend to reflect the ideas of the people that organise them, but - as fervent advocates of Web 2.0 - Be2camp believes in tapping into the wisdom of the crowd to see what additional awards they might like to see offered. If you think we have missed an obvious category, please feel free to suggest one (or to second an existing suggestion). And if you want to sponsor that category, let us know too.
